||Key Note Speaker - Stacey (Ironwill) Kozel
Stacey Kozel through-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2016. "I have always wanted to hike the AT but after becoming paralyzed in March 2014 I wasn't sure I would get the chance."
Her goal is to bring awareness to lupus and prove the importance of improving quality of life. Stacey has had lupus since she was a teenager and plans to do her best to not let it control her life. "I know the obstacles that I have ahead of me, but the worst day on the trail is still far better than the best day in the hospital. I believe the possibilities are endless and we may never know what we can accomplish if we give up too soon. I hope to see everyone out there on the trail!"
Before TrailFest, Stacey will have started her trek on the Pacific Crest Trail, but is flying back to be with us for the weekend.
Stacey is an Ohio native, residing in Medina.
||Buckeye Trail Annual Business Meeting
The meeting is open to all BTA members and the public without charge. All Buckeye TrailFest attendees are welcome and encouraged to attend! The Buckeye Trail Association’s constitution requires that we hold “at least an annual meeting of the membership.” This is our 58th year of existence; this year’s annual meeting will be our 57th. The annual meeting is a testament to how we've grown since 1959 when Emma "Grandma" Gatewood, a charter member of the BTA and one of the first trustees, along with numerous others, envisioned the growth of the Buckeye Trail Association. We have much information to share with everyone.
A special feature of the meeting is the election of trustees to serve a three-year term. Five of the fifteen seats fall vacant every year and are filled at the annual meeting by vote of the general membership. Note: only members may vote. Reports by the executive director, the treasurer, the Trail Preservation Fund and other committees provide a picture of where we are as an organization and what we hope to become. Questions and comments by members and friends in attendance are welcome.
||Buckeye Trail Board Meeting
The Board meets to elect the Board Officers for the next year.
